Solar Panels and Powerwalls with Tesla Energy

In November 2021, I had 17kW Tesla Solar Panels and 2 Tesla Powerwall+ battery and inverter units installed on my home in Mesa, Arizona. Below is a quick summary of my output for the past few years.

☀️ 17KW Tesla Solar Panels (40x425W Panels) 🔋 2x Tesla Powerwall+ 🏜️ Mesa, Arizona

We’re able to stay off the grid during “peak” hours in the summer, and near completely off grid 24/7 from ~October til May. 🔌

When we built this house we specifically chose a lot facing north, so that we could have a massive south-facing roof. ⬆️

Experience has been phenomenal— only issue was with a Powerwall and @TeslaSolar replaced it a few weeks later. 🧑‍🔧

Q&A

Q: That’s awesome! I’ve been looking into it, do you think it’s worth the cost if I don’t plan to stay in my current house for the next 30 years? @merrill_lines

A: With my setup and based on current rates… it’s looking like a 15-16 year ROI. Every system will be different— a ton of factors determining that number. Unfortunately SRP is a stinker and has a steep grid connection fee ($30+/mo) and low buyback rates ($0.028/KWh)

Q: Are you making money exporting? @AstroPcfliu

A: Unfortunately not much at all- my utility buys back at a rate of $0.028/kWh. It’s enough to cover the grid connection fee and bank away some credit during the winter/spring months, but I use the credits once the air conditioner starts needing to run in the summer nights.
